President Nana Addo’s Inaugural Address


















President of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo has promised to "protect and defend" Ghana's constitution at all times. Akufo-Addo was today sworn in by Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood after he took the presidential oath and the oath of secrecy before parliament.

The ceremony was held at the Independence Square and various heads of state and several dignitaries graced it.

Teaching and learning activities at the Konongo Odumase Senior High School in the Ashanti Region have come to a halt following a decision by the school’s board to send the students home for rioting.

Speaking to Citi News, David Asare, tutor at the school who also doubles as the Chairman of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) for the Asante Akyem Central Municipality said the decision was taken after a board meeting.

The students went on rampage on Friday at the premises of the school over what they described as ‘unlawful’ transfer of some ten teachers by the headmistress, Comfort Odehe.

Ashanti parliamentary nominees disqualified over filing fees – EC

The Electoral Commission has told Citi News that it disqualified 24 parliamentary nominees in the Ashanti Region because they failed to pay the GHc10,000 filing fee.

The Commission on Thursday announced that, only 216 of the total of 240 aspirants have been cleared to contest in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

A senior member of the Ashanti Regional communication team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abass Nurudeen says he is shocked by the decision of one of the party’s communicators to defect to the opposition New Patriotic Party.
Nurudeen in a statement on Thursday said, “I certainly did not know what his [Awal Mohammed] real motives were but considering how spirited he defended the party on radio, nobody, in his wildest imagination, would believe he would pitch camp with our bitterest political opponents at this crucial moment.”

91 percent of Ghanaians don’t own property – Survey





A recent survey conducted by Jumia House Ghana and Hacking Adulthood has revealed that 91 percent of Ghanaians are not property owners.
This 91 percent of Ghanaians are either renting accommodation or living with their nuclear family.
The survey, which was conducted online, had a sample size of over 200 respondents with 89 percent seeking to change their current housing situation.
The majority, forming 64 percent, are looking to own their own apartments and are willing to spend an average amount of GHc 826 per month, describing that amount as affordable.
