Following rumours of the demise of the Ghana football legend, his son has refuted the reports, saying the former African footballer of the year is alive
Ghana and West Ham United midfielder Andre Ayew has debunked rumours that his father Abedi 'Pele' Ayew, who is three-time former African best player, died in France on Friday following a short illness.

The 26-year-old also insisted that the former Ghana captain had not complained of any illness in recent time and was not on medications.
“My dad is alive and very well,” Ayew told Ghanasoccernet.
“He has not suffered from any sickness or illness and has not received any treatment in France. The reports are completely false and hoax,” he added.
The reports sent shockwaves across Ghana, as Abedi is regarded by many as the best player the country has produced.
Abedi won the Africa Cup of Nations title with the Black Stars in 1982 at age 18 and helped French giants Olympique Marseille to claim the Uefa Champions League in 1993 when they defeated AC Milan.
