One of the most powerful families in the country is that of the Rawlingses. Former President J. J. Rawlings is the longest-serving Head of State in the history of the country, with a number of landmark achievements to his credit.

But he is also criticised for certain decisions taken under his 18 years of revolt and revolution, as well as democratic governance.

His wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, on the other hand, is the longest-serving First Lady and leading advocate of  women’s empowerment in Africa.

The power crisis in Ghana has intensified, with many people in Accra and several parts of the country, currently experiencing 24-hour power outage and only 12 hours of power supply.

In some cases, customers of the Electricity of Ghana (ECG) enjoy only six hours of uninterrupted power supply.

The power crisis has affected many businesses which have led to the shutdown of factories and dismissal of workers even though government claims there is no load-shedding.

President John Mahama recently said he would not declare load-shedding despite admitting challenges in the power sector in the country.

Cassava is a major staple in Ghana with economic value for many people both in rural and urban areas. The commodity is scarce nationwide on the open market; difficult to come by lately.
It is not because production has dwindled but rather due to other uses of the crop discovered by businesses and industries.

The Black Stars are the 36th best national football team in the world, but 11 places down from their position same time last year.Ghana have moved a place up in the latest FIFA World Ranking released on Thursday.July’s ranking sees Ghana on the 36th position – one place better than they did in June - with a corresponding increase in total accumulated points by 21.
